Edward 'Paddy' Gleeson was one of the earliest pioneers and ultimately got the naming rights to the town and surrounds, settling on Clare after his home town back in Ireland.
Today, the region is well known for its production of the highest quality Riesling in Australia and boasts over 40 cellars and vineyards.
